US Iran war news LIVE updates: The conflict between the United States and Iran, that sparked tensions in the Middle East following US-Israel attacks on Iran last month, rages on for the ninth day on Sunday, with no immediate signs of abating. Fresh attacks were reported in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Fresh mobile alerts were issued in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, warning residents against aerial attacks.
Here are the top developments of the US-Iran conflict on Day 9:
- Explosions in Tel Aviv: At least 10 explosions were reported over Israel's commercial hub, Tel Aviv, on Sunday as Iran’s Revolutionary Guard vowed to step up attacks against Israel and the US assets in the Middle East.
- Attack on Lebanon, Beirut, Tehran: Israel struck southern Lebanon, Beirut and oil storage facilities in Tehran, even as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised “many surprises” for the next phase of the conflict.
- Khamenei's successor decided: In a significant move that is closely watched by Washington and Tel Aviv, Iran's clerical body tasked with selecting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's successor has reached a decision. A name is yet to be announced. Hinting at the name of the successor, a member of the body, Ayatollah Mohsen Heidari Alekasir, said: “Even the Great Satan (the US) has mentioned his name.” Mojtaba Khamenei is believed to have been a possible successor to his father, who was killed on February 28.
Explosions were heard in Iran's central Yazd province on Sunday, AFP news agency reported, citing state media. Israel also struck an airport in Iran’s Isfahan, destroying F14 fighter jets. As Tehran continues retaliatory strikes on its neighbours, including the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday said that his earlier remarks apologising to Gulf nations had been “misinterpreted by the enemy that seeks to sow division with neighbours.”
“It has repeatedly been said we are brothers and must have good relations with neighbours. However, we are forced to retaliate to attacks but this does not mean we have a dispute with a (neighbouring) country or want to upset their people,” Pezeshkian said. This came after US President Donald Trump claimed in a post on Truth Social that Iran had “lost” and “surrendered to Middle East neighbours.”
Kuwait on Sunday said it intercepted three ballistic missiles, while Saudi Arabia downed three more drones near Riyadh.
On the other hand, an Israeli strike on a hotel in central Beirut killed at least four people and injured ten others on Sunday, as Israel said that it targeted Iranian commanders operating in the Lebanese capital.

Apart from explosions in Oslo, the near the US embassyn Iraq's Baghdad was hit by Katyusha rockets, Reuters reported, citing security sources.

US special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff said that Iran had not seemed “very amenable” during negotiations before US and Israel launched strikes last week. “They told me and Jared, we’re not going to give you diplomatically what you couldn’t take militarily,” Witkoff said.
